Australian photographer Ross Bird’s phot essay on the East Timorese struggle for independence featurig portraiture of the Timorese people, their society and culture and the political protests both in East Timor and Australia. Text by prominent East Timorese leaders. Bird published this book in 1999. He would go on to provide Time magazine with photographs for their cover story commemorating the liberation of East Timor published: June 19th 2000.
