Description

Nicolas Fouquet was the Lord High Treasurer of France under Louis XIV the Sun King. This well illustrated slim volume contains accounts of Fouquet’s life and selections from his writing. Interestly it is speculated that the fabled ‘man in the iron mask’ made famous in Alexandre Dumas’s novel of that name was Fouquet. Whether Fouquet wore such a mask is unknown. What is known is that he had a spectacular fall from grace and was imprisoned for the last 19 years of his life.

Second edition very rare. Some loose pages but complete and pages are as new.
