Philip Gibbs was a journalist and author of booksHe served as one of five official reporters in World War I as a war correspondant from the Western Front. Recalled from the front because f his somewhat too liberal views he refused and was arrested. Eventuall, however he was returned to the front. His prolofic output includes well over a hundred books published.
The Battle Within was published immediately after the end of World War II (in which he also served as a correspondant).
