Description

English journalist C. E. Bechhofer spoke Russian fluently. Inthe early years of the Bolshevik Revolution during the Great Famine he obtained permission to enter the Societ Union and report on the famine. This was very rare at the time but Bochhofer was regarded as reliably impartial. He was able to escape from his guide and, because he was fluent in Russian, travel and speak to ordinary people.  The volume features photographs by the author.
